How the job actually runs
We come out and measure
Not a phone quote. We walk the rooms, count the doors, look at the trim and the ceilings, and ask what is bothering you about the space.
You get the price in writing, by room
Broken out room by room so you can see what each part costs and take anything out you do not want.
We schedule, and confirm before we arrive
You know which day we start and roughly how long we will be in the house.
Everything gets covered
Floors, furniture, fixtures. Anything that is not being painted gets protected before a single lid comes off.
Prep, then paint
Patching, sanding, caulking and priming come first. Most of what makes a paint job last happens before any color goes on the wall.
The crew walks it, then your crew leader walks it with you
The crew goes through the work first and fixes what they find. Then your crew leader walks the job with you, room by room, and we correct whatever you point at.
Which sheen goes where
Same color on all four chips below. The only thing changing is the sheen, and it matters more than the color for how a wall wears.
No shine at all. It hides a wavy wall or a patched ceiling better than anything else, and it touches up almost invisibly. It will not take scrubbing.
Ceilings, and bedrooms that do not get handprints.Barely any sheen, but tougher than flat and it still wipes. This is what most people end up running through the whole house.
Most rooms, most of the time.A soft low sheen you can actually scrub. It reflects a bit more light, which also means it shows more of what is under it, so the prep matters more here.
Hallways, stairwells, kids' rooms, kitchens and baths.Hard and washable, and it makes woodwork read as a separate element from the wall.
Trim and doors only. We do not recommend it on walls.What moves the price
Square footage is the least interesting number in a painting estimate. These are the four things that actually change what a room costs.
How much prep the walls need
A smooth wall in good shape is quick. Nail pops, old patches, cracked plaster and peeling paint all add hours before any color goes on, and prep is most of the cost.
Ceilings, and how high they are
A nine-foot ceiling and a two-story stairwell are different jobs. Height changes the staging, not just the square footage.
Trim, and how much of it there is
Trim is slow. A room with crown, chair rail, wainscot and six-panel doors can cost more than the walls around it.
How far the color is moving
Going from dark to light, or covering a strong color, can mean an extra coat across the whole room.

Every color below is a town we have actually painted in, sized by how much work we have done there since 2020.
Questions we get asked
How long will my house be torn up?
A single room is usually a day. A typical whole-floor repaint runs three to five days. We give you the number with the estimate and we tell you if it changes.
Do I have to move my furniture?
No. We move it to the middle of the room and cover it, or move it out if that is easier. You are welcome to move anything fragile or sentimental yourself.
Can you match a color I already have?
Usually. Bring us a chip, a lid, or a piece of the wall. If you are choosing new colors, a virtual color consultation is included with the job.
What about the smell?
Nearly everything we use now is low odour and low VOC. Most families stay in the house while we work.
What if something is not right when it is done?
Your crew leader walks the job with you at the end, room by room. Tell them what you want changed and they will take care of it.
Do you do just one room?
Yes. Our minimum is $900, which covers a small room or a Painter for a Day.
