Delaware County has moved past gray

Of the 90 homes that chose at least one named color, warm whites and creams appeared in 35. True grays appeared in just 10, behind greens and greiges. The gray era is ending here, and it is being replaced by warmth and by green.

Homes can appear in more than one family. Generic untinted whites (ceilings, standard trim) excluded.

Where homeowners get brave

Kitchens and home offices are where real color happens. Living rooms are where it does not.

Also in the data: 33 of 41 ceiling orders were plain untinted white, and when trim gets a real color, it is almost always a warm designer white. White Dove is the most-named trim color.

Delco, Chester County and the Main Line decorate differently

Regions shown only where the sample supports it (town matched for 53 of 101 homes). Philadelphia (6 homes) and New Castle County, DE (2 homes) are in the dataset but below our reporting threshold.

What colors actually get used together

The numbers, stated plainly

• Alabaster (Sherwin-Williams SW 7008) was the most frequently chosen paint color, appearing in 9 of the 101 homes in our dataset.
• 87% of the 136 named colors were chosen by exactly one home; the top 10 colors together reach only 32 of 101 homes.
• Warm whites and creams appeared in 35 of 90 homes that chose named colors (39%); true grays appeared in 10 (11%).
• Green is the most popular true color family, appearing in 21 of 90 homes (23%), ahead of blue (14%).
• The median project uses 1 named wall color; the average is 2. Eleven homes used 4 or more.
• Satin is the dominant sheen, at 89 of 279 line items, ahead of matte at 57.
• 75 of the 101 homes bought Sherwin-Williams; 14 bought Benjamin Moore; 4 bought Farrow and Ball.
• 80% of ceiling orders (33 of 41) were plain untinted white.
• Kitchens were the most adventurous common room: 45% of kitchen paint choices were a real color. Living rooms were the most conservative at 14%.
• Every Farrow and Ball order in the dataset came from a Main Line or Swarthmore home.

How this report was built

Dataset: 279 paint line items across 101 unique customer projects, taken directly from Sabatini Pro Painting purchase orders placed between July 2025 and August 2026. Geography: Delaware County, PA and our surrounding service area (Chester County, the Main Line, Greater Philadelphia, and New Castle County, DE). Fields: manufacturer, color name and code, sheen, quantity, room label, order month, and municipality where known (53 of 101 projects). Excluded from color rankings: primers, sundries, and generic untinted whites (White, Pure White, Extra White, Stock White, High Hide White), which are counted separately for ceiling and trim statistics. A "home" is one customer project; colors are counted once per home regardless of gallons. Color family classifications are listed in the downloadable dataset. On-screen swatches are approximate renderings of manufacturer colors; always confirm with a physical chip. No customer-identifying information appears in this report or the dataset.
