Painting a Brand-New Construction Home in Wilmington, DE

Past customers moving into a brand-new construction home in the Wilmington, DE area asked us to replace the builder's single coat of flat white with real colors and better paint. Six painters, three days, eight rooms, and a grasscloth foyer to finish it off.

The problem

John and Nicole are past customers of ours who were moving to a newly built home in the Wilmington, DE area. Like most new construction, the house came with exactly one coat of builder-grade paint on every wall and ceiling, thin, flat, and the same shade of white in every room. They wanted the house to feel like theirs before moving in: real colors, chosen room by room, in a paint that would actually hold up to daily life. And because moving day was already set, the whole house had to be done fast.

What we did

We put six painters on site and repainted the walls of the entire house in three days, eight rooms plus the hallways and the full stairway, about 108 man-hours of work. Every room got Sherwin-Williams Duration: Shiitake in the bedrooms, Natural Tan through the family room, kitchen, dining room and stairway, Accessible Beige in the loft, Agreeable Gray in the master bath, and Krypton in the home office. After move-in, John and Nicole liked the result enough to order wallpaper as a second project, and our own installer hung grasscloth above the wainscoting to give the foyer a finished, custom feel.

How it turned out

The house went from one coat of builder white to a fully finished home in three days, and the grasscloth foyer made the entrance feel like it belonged in a design magazine. John and Nicole moved in on schedule, told us they were thrilled with the speed and the results, and have been referring us to their new neighbors ever since.
