Rick: I am here with Debbie. We are in Brookhaven. We just finished the crown molding install. We fixed some drywall. We skim coated the ceiling. Painted the closet and the whole entire room, up the hallway. Took down the wallpaper. And then repainted everything. Popcorn ceiling. Rick: What was your favorite part about working with us? Debbie: There is a couple. On time. Actually a little bit early. Clean up, wonderful. And communication was real important. Real, real important. Rick: I know you have worked with other contractors before. What was different about working with our company? Debbie: It was night and day. Night and day. Last company, horrible. We have a textured or popcorn ceiling. Can you just paint it?
We can, but usually we should not. If you want it smooth it gets sanded down and skim coated flat first, then primed and painted. Painting over the texture locks it in, and you will be looking at it for another twenty years.
There is wallpaper in our stairwell. Do you take it off or paint over it?
We take it off. Paint does not bond to paper the way it bonds to a wall, and the seams telegraph through. After the paper comes down we oil, prime and skim coat the wall so it comes out flat and stays that way.
